Peace in a promise

“My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my savior.”

Luke 1:46

“Glory to God in the highest and peace on earth.” (Luke 2:14)

In the readings today from 1 Samuel chapter 2 and Luke chapter 1, we hear two faithful women proclaim glory to God.  Both identify the mighty deeds God has done for His people.

Today, our world, God’s people around the world, are faced with many issues that have created discontent, loss of loved ones, and financially impacts. Some find it hard to rejoice in this, hard to find peace in the midst of it.

All is not lost and God is still on the throne in the midst of it all. At the end of Mary’s Magnificat, she reminds us that “he remembered his promise of mercy.” (Luke 1:54) God is a merciful and compassionate father, that brings goodness to all His beloved. During a pandemic is no exception. In a few days, Christ comes into our lives to fill it with that love and mercy. He comes into our hearts to let us know that there is hope for each of us through God’s plan of salvation. It’s our faith in God’s plan that allows Him to fill us with joy this Christmas as we rest in the peace of His mercy that He promises.

I invite you to look upon a Nativity scene today and be reminded of the mercy and compassion that God brings to us through this scene from centuries ago.

May your Christmas be filled with the glory of God who brings peace into the world, through your very own heart.
