“Do everything with Love.”
1 Corinthians 16:14
I was given an assignment to read 1 Corinthians completely through in one setting and then asked in the context of Paul’s audience in Corinth, what was the issues his letter was addressing and what were the options he had given to the people of Corinth? As I was reading, I thought the letter was so fitting to what is going on in our country today in the political campaign.
In Paul’s letter to the Corinthians, he is addressing a division between the people. This division is regarding who they are followers of – Paul, Apollos or Peter.
Today, our country is experiencing a similar division. A division on who should be the leader of our country.
Are you a Trump supporter or Biden supporter?
Paul goes on to address this division and in doing so he uses a couple of great concepts to illustrate unity. In Paul’s letter, I think there is a common theme that applies for us as well in the midst of this political campaign.
Christ is the focal point!!
We are all followers of Christ, not followers of Paul, Apollos or Peter. God is the ultimate leader of our country. If God is in control, which I’m certain He is or my faith has no value, then the right leader will be placed in office to fulfill His plan for our country.
The apostles only bring the message, Christ’s message. Our president only leads our country by the will of God.
Paul presents the people of Corinth with a solution which I think is fitting for us as well.

LOVE
Without love, all of our talents and our gifts are worthless. If we love as members of the one body of Christ, we can each effectively build on the foundational truth and basis of our country. It is through unity, that our body parts are effective to operate as it does in our lives. It is through unity, that we as the people of the United States stand together to build a society that is grounded on the foundational principals of our country and our faith in the one God and the human person Jesus Christ. If we remain divided by political parties, by policies, we will achieve nothing. We are each planted and watered differently, but God is the one who initiates the growth.
Are you willing to LOVE the one standing next to you who opposes your viewpoint? Are you willing to use the gifts and talents God has given you to effect the change He is calling you to in your community, society, and in our country? Are you willing to work together with your neighbor of varying opinions through LOVE to bring about what God is calling you to?
“If I speak in human and angelic tongues but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal. And if I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give away everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, [love] is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.”
1 Corinthians 13:1-8
