“He will call upon me and I will answer. I will be with him in distress. I will deliver him and give him honor.” Psalm 91:15
Have you called out in prayer in the midst of distress? Have you asked God to deliver you from whatever you were dealing with? Did He rescue you?
This morning I sit on the balcony outside of my room overlooking a pond with the soothing sound of a fountain flowing before me and the occasional sound of a duck nearby. I sit here embracing the moment because this peace reminds me of all that I am thankful for. I am blessed in so many ways. Even in the moments I didn’t realize it, God’s hands were delivering me. He has always been by my side in my life. He has especially been with me in the moments of my greatest distress. He has heard every cry and has dried every tear.
The other day I was listening to Lauren Daigle’s song “Rescue”. As I started to listen to the song, something told me to pay special attention to the lyrics. I am amazed by how much this song speaks to my journey. Take a moment and let the lyrics sing to your soul, especially if you have ever felt forgotten, hopeless, or broken….
“You are not hidden
There’s never been a moment
You were forgotten
You are not hopeless
Though you have been broken
Your innocence stolen
I hear you whisper underneath your breath
I hear your SOS
Your SOS
I will send out an army
To find you in the middle of the darkest night
It’s true, I will rescue you”
I think one of the things that resonates the most with me in the song is “I will send out an army…. I will rescue you.” I envision this army twofold. One an army of angels surrounding us because if you read Psalm 91 it also says He will “send His angels to guard you wherever you go.” I believe that our Guardian Angel is with us at all times guarding us. I also think that other angels are within our midst in times of need. The second part of the army is the people God places in our lives that make lasting imprints on our journey – giving us hope, helping us to heal, and just walking beside us in the midst of a difficult trial.
Although my Guardian Angel and the other angels God sends to guard and protect us are important and necessary, I don’t want to focus so much on that but on the people that God places in our path.
Throughout my journey, I cannot express how important certain people have been in my life. Some people may call this incidental or fate. I like to call this Divine Providence.
WHY?
These individuals are specifically sent into our lives to intersect our path for a purpose. God hears our cries and He sends them in that particular moment to RESCUE us. Not by their merit but by HIS. It is God working in the midst of them to give us exactly what we need in that moment.
Recently I was going through a tough moment. Several blogs back I wrote about being completely full with junk and not having space for God to fill my spirit. This junk was a result of residuals of my past lingering deep within myself waiting to surface. I was completely prepared to deal with this on my own. I had made plans to go off on my own and surrender myself to God.
God had another plan…. He knew what I needed.
At the great advice of my spiritual director, I went to see one of our priest – who thought I needed to surrender, thought I needed to go off away from my typical environment… but not ALONE. Burst my BUBBLE – I sure thought I had it all figured out. Within a day or so, just a simple mention of my conversation with the priest, one of my dearest sisters without hesitation figured it all out – I was not going to be alone walking through this. She was going to walk with me in whatever capacity God was calling her to do so. She did and I sit here on this balcony today not full of junk but with a vessel that is being filled with the Spirit of God.
This is only one instance in my journey where God has sent someone or several into my life to help me, to guide me, so that He could RESCUE ME.
Dearest sisters and brothers, He hears your SOS and He sends His army to RESCUE you. It is His presence in the army that does the rescuing because He knows exactly what you need in each and every moment of life. So when you are feeling hopeless and broken, call out to your Heavenly Father for you are not forgotten – He will answer you, be with you in your distress and deliver you. He tells you this in Psalm 91:15, why would you have any doubt. Blessings my sisters and brothers.

Thank you for this post! I needed this reminder today! He IS our rescuer and provider and while reading this I had several people come to mind that God has used as my “rescue army” over the years. I never thought of it quite that way but that is exactly what they were! I know He will cotinue to be faithful through this next battle as well. Thanks for the encouragement!!!
