Gardening the Heart

“This is the way, walk in it.”

Isaiah 30:21

Today, the readings wrap up our hope in a little package.  We hear the Holy Spirit guiding us.  When we choose to follow, life flourishes.  God will provide us with life giving waters to grow the seed within us and from the richness of the soil, much abundance will be produced.  Christ will light the path of darkness surrounding us with great brightness and all our wounds will be bound and healed.

This is the hope that Christ brings us.  This is the hope of His salvation when we accept the invitation to follow Him.

It’s amazing that in less than 20 days, we welcome this baby that will bring new life, wipe away our tears and heal our brokenness.  Christmas is a time of invitation.  It’s a time to invite Christ deeper into our hearts to allow Him to be the gardener within our hearts, watering the seeds that will overflow love and beauty and weeding the unwanted hurts, sin, and pain that strangle the ability for growth.

As the first week of Advent comes to a close today, I invite you to take a moment and ask yourself have you invited Christ deeper into your heart, allowing Him to be the gardener of your heart.
