Blessed are those who trust in the LORD; the LORD will be their trust. They are like a tree planted beside the waters that stretches out its roots to the stream: It does not fear heat when it comes, its leaves stay green; In the year of drought it shows no distress, but still produces fruit
Jeremiah 17:7-8
I grew up watching cartoons such as Garfield, Tom and Jerry, and Bugs Bunny. I recall many episodes where Garfield or Tom in particular could smell food from great distances and follow the “visual” trail of the smell.
Tree roots do a similar thing. They search out water sources surrounding the base of the tree to continue bringing life to its branches.
Three weeks ago, God placed what I thought was an obstacle in my path. For a bit of a minute I questioned much and was ready to throw my hands up and give up. God showed up in a big way and what I thought was an obstacle became a gift with an abundance of learning.
Jeremiah 17:7-8 was given to me at a retreat many years ago. It meant something to me then and today it means something a little different.
Over the last few weeks I’ve had the privilege of walking with another on a road filled with gaping holes. These holes I knew existed to an extent but never understood. As I walked with this person, my eyes and ears were open and I received deeper meanings of self worth, love, and how God plants us in places for a purpose.
One of the things I heard a person say during this period was bloom where you’re planted.
What does it mean to bloom where you’re planted?

God planted this person during this time so that we could bloom together. He stretched each of us to find the source of life. He watered an area in me that was dry. When I wanted to give up, I sought Him in prayer for wisdom and guidance and He opened my eyes to an act of strength I hadn’t seen before. He moved my heart with compassion and patience. As the weeks went by I saw more fruit being produced in both of us.
I ask myself will the leaves stay green? I trust that God will continue to water these roots and produce fruit little by little in abundance.
Will this be an easy road?
The struggles will continue to present themselves, but as the journey continues, these gaping holes will become pot holes. The roots will continue to find life as they search.
I invite you to look around and see who God has planted in your life or where He has planted you to bloom in accordance with His purpose.
Love on those around you, especially the desolate.
